Originally PelotonTales was one single blog focusing both on past and present of road cycling. Well, a bit more on the past than on the present.
But a few months ago I have divided it into several semi-independent subprojects, like this one here about the upcoming Giro d’Italia 2025, or the Tour de France 2025.
Also, the great stories from the past have found a new cozy home, this is the
Vintage Road Cycling Stories
project.
Although there is obviously more content related to the Tour de France, you still can find plenty of fascinating Giro d’Italia stories, like about
Alfredo Binda, who was paid not to participate the Giro d’Italia in 1930
Giovanni Gerbi’s last Giro d’Italia at the age of 47,
Charly Gaul’s heroic stage victory on Monte Bondone in 1956,
or Eddy Merckx’s first big success of winning the inaugural Blockhaus stage in 1967.
Also, on my Patreon you can find a longer essay about why this photo below is my favourite Giro d’Italia image.
My Patreon (also re-started with a new concept not long ago) is currently (mostly) about the early days of road cycling in wider cultural-historical context.
If you read the first post there (The beauty of road cycling history), you might get a glimpse on why a literary critic, specializing in historical ficton has interest also in road cycling history.
